What is Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various parts of the body. For some people, lupus can be mild, but for others, it can be serious and life threatening. MEDICAL CARE FOR THOSE WITHOUT INSURANCE

Dallas Area

Parkland Hospital (Dallas County residents only - must show proof of residency) 5201 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas, TX. If you are sick or need help deciding what to do, call the 24 Hour Parkland Nurse Line at 214-266-8777; OR go to the nearest Parkland Community Oriented Primary Care Clinic to arrange to be seen for primary care and referral to the Arthritis Clinic; OR go to an emergency room if your lupus needs immediate care. St. Paul Medical Center Arthritis Clinic 5909 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas, TX (214) 879-3876. Physician referral required.

Presbyterian Hospital Arthritis Consultation Center 8200 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX (214) 345-7378.

V.A. Medical Center Arthritis Clinic (Veterans Only) 4500 South Lancaster Road, Dallas, TX (800) 849-3597. If a veteran needs to be seen at a VA hospital, they need to fill out an online application to enroll in the VA system - go to www.va.gov/elig. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children 2222 Welborn, Dallas, TX. On approved application all patients are treated free of charge (214) 559-7490.

Fort Worth Area

John Peter Smith Hospital (Tarrant County Residents without insurance), 1500 S. Main, Fort Worth, TX 76104. Call for appointment to determine if eligible for assistance. Doctor visits: $10-20.00. Prescriptions: $5.00 for 3 month supply at JPS Pharmacy. Clinics available city-wide. Call (817) 921-3431.

Denton County

People's Clinic of Denton County offers health care to the uninsured and underinsured population and is NOT limited to residents of Denton county. Fees are based on a sliding scale determined by factors such as income and number of family members. Visits are by appointment only, hours are M-F, first appointment of the day is at 8:30 AM and the last appointment of the day is at 4:30 PM.

Lewisville

Primary Care Clinic of North Texas 376 W Main Street, Suite F, Lewisville, TX 75057. Call (972) 221-6005 for an appointment. This is a nonprofit clinic set up by the Lion's Club and offers low-cost health care for the uninsured and is NOT limited to residents of Lewisville or Denton county. Medical visits are $30 and the clinic has arrangements with pharmacies and radiology clinics for low-cost medications and x-rays. The clinic sees adults only, ages 18 and up. Hours are Monday and Wednesday from 1-5PM and Thursday and Saturday from 9AM to 1PM. See www.primarycareclinic.org for up to date information.

City of Amarillo and Potter County

Wyatt Health Plan The Health Access Clearinghouse helps residents of Potter County in dertermining eligibility for and successfully applying to Medicaid, Medicare and the Amarillo Hospital District's Wyatt Health Plan. The purpose of the Amarillo Hospital District is to furnish medical aid and hospital care to the indigent and needy person residing in the Hospital District. MEDICATION PROGRAMS

PhRMA Pharmaceutical Company Patient Assistance Programs The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America publishes a directory listing the companies that provide prescription medicines free of charge to patients who might not otherwise be able to get the necessary medicines, the medicines available, basic eligibility requirements, and contact persons. RxAssist provides physicians and other health care providers with the information they need to access programs provided by pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer a limited supply of free or low-cost medications to patients in need through their patient assistance programs. These programs are intended to serve as a "last resort" for patients who are unable to use other programs and who otherwise would not be able to afford needed medications. Texas Information and Referral Network The Finding Help In Texas system contains comprehensive information about health and human services programs in Texas. This includes (but is not limited to) assistance for food, housing and shelter, education, legal, childcare, emergencies, physical and mental health, financial assistance, and transportation. The system is designed to inform you about the health and human services that are available in your community. Programs are geographically indexed by zip code and by county.
